CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT...

This month, we're featuring a telescope built from scratch by Henry Fisher. (You might have seen another telescope he built in a previous email!)

He says:

"The telescope took me over two years to build and was a gift for my son.

There is over 350 parts in that scope including the brass screws of which 10% were cut to size and modified. Threads cut shorter and even the heads cut into different shapes.

The dew shield is sheet brass covered aluminum.

The fork mount and curved brass mounts etc. are all Speedy Metals and made from aluminum and brass blocks of your metal.

Some things are out of sight like the gears in the fork mount and under the tray which came from 3 Kodak printers, and the brake material (drag like a fishing reel) was made from disk brakes from a real car. Also the green laser pointer enclosed in your brass."

Henry plans to submit it to Astronomy Technology Today Magazine. Check out how he built it:

"It is capable of pointing at a black sky to then deliver an eye full of stars with the 2 inch eyepiece in the dual speed focuser.

It delivers perfect focus from center to the edge of the 103mm Jaegars lens (Not all scopes stay in focus center to edge, or across the entire lens or mirror, only the real expensive ones or good lenses)

It is made to look like the old English telescopes standing approx. 9-1/2 foot tall when the fork mount is extended by the aluminum rod that retracts back into the black outer sleeve in the picture and the telescope itself is pointed straight up. Black tube and brass dew shield is almost 6 foot long and capable of extreme magnification.

Even the tube is from Speedy Metals, turned thinner on a CNC Lathe. I did that so I could control exactly how thick I wanted the tube to be, a little thicker than a standard tube, to reduce flex."
