CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT This month we're featuring Paul Thompson, who sent us these pictures of the backplate he made for his 1942 LeBlond 17" lathe. He says: "The backplate that was on my 2J collet chuck for my 1942 LeBlond 17" lathe was a mess from previous owners' attempts to repair. I purchased a 6" X 3" piece of cast iron from Speedy Metals and went to work turning out a new backplate with the 2 7/8" X 5 thread to fit the spindle. When finished, and the old collet chuck mounted, the improvement in runout was considerable and looks much better. This is the 2nd backplate I have made with cast iron from Speedy Metals and it has always machined very nicely with no porosity or hard spots." Want to see your work featured here? Send us an email at newsletter@speedymetals.com. You can also check out other great customer projects on our blog or on our Facebook page. |
WHAT YOU'RE SAYING "Awesome online purchase of hard to find angle pieces. Shipping was fast, precise cuts on metal stock. Price very reasonable and phone interaction was very professional. I highly recommend this e-commerce company for all your metal needs. Pleasant experience and I'll be back buying more!"

DID YOU KNOW...? ...that 75% of all aluminum ever produced in history is still in use today? Aluminum is infinitely recyclable, and it takes much less energy to recycle it than to mine and refine it. Now, researchers have developed a technique that allows for the recovery of 100% of the aluminum and 98% of the lithium from spent electric car batteries. The technique doesn't use expensive chemicals either - it relies on oxalic acid – "an organic compound that can be found in plants like rhubarb and spinach". Learn more in the full article here.
