This week we're featuring Matt Leicester, who built a new bumper/hitch for his 1991 Toyota truck. He says:
"My 1991 Toyota truck is now at 620,000 miles. The rear bumper I have had on it since I bought the truck I made for my 1986 Toyota truck and modified to fit the 1991. It was finally time to build a new rear bumper / hitch.
The main cross bar is 2” x 4”, .188” thickness steel, the mount plates are 3/8” steel, the connectors from the mounting plates to the main tube are 1.5” x 3”, .188 thick steel, and the bumper tubes themselves are 2.5” OD, .125 wall. Similar design to what I built in 1986, but with thicker steel for the hitch areas and mounting plates. All of the tubes are vented to the main tube either directly or indirectly, then with the two holes for my trailer wiring connector, I vacuumed the air out and filled the assembly with Argon so rusting from the inside should not be a problem. The completed bumper weighs in at 67 pounds."
